This is a very early Series C doll, possibly one of the first, as evidenced by the Steiner/Bourgoin mark handwritten in red ink on the back of the head. This dates the doll to 1881 or shortly thereafter.
The body of this doll is very rare and especially interesting: this is so-called Motschmann-type body with separate composition torso, hips and limbs. The torso, hips and legs are joined with kid leather and cloth tape. Also note loose ball elbow joints.
This lovely doll wearing chemise and bonnet also has original pate, wig, socks, original Steiner shoes marked with a star - everything is in perfect condition.
